home-office-by-lauren-stephens.jpgThe silence when working from home can sometimes be deafening for some moms whose children maybe at school or a dayhome during the day. But for me, the isolation doesn’t come from silence since I have two toddlers at home with me. I enjoy my little peaceful break I get during their naptime when I can get the most productive work done during the weekday.

Otherwise, the rest of my day is a juggle between phone, computer, breakfast, lunchtime, story time, craft time, well, you get it.

What can be isolating is the lack of face-to-face adult conversation. I can’t exactly run by an idea for a post by my 3 year old. He would just give me the “deer in the headlights” look, and although a very cute look there wouldn’t be an opinion given.

So what are some things that can help with the isolation of working from home for mommies?

Well, one saving grace of mine are contacts I have met through different business ventures. None of them are local and I don’t even have to talk to them on the phone all of the time. I use Skype a great deal and text or talk through the mic to my business partner/friends on a daily basis. It breaks up the isolation and I am often not the only one with children running around in the background which reminds me I am not alone.

Yes, you can explore some more traditional methods and join local business groups and get together with other moms and friends for lunch, but if you’re working from home and you are a busy mom, you won’t find much time to run around town with toddlers hanging off your arm while attempting to network.

A better idea may be if you have a mommy friend locally who is on the same path arrange a playdate and you can exchange ideas while your kids keep each other busy playing with each other.

Be creative in your ways to battling isolation and you will find a whole new world open up to you. Are you involved in a mastermind group? These can be quite helpful to your business and you could do your meetings on conference calls. The mastermind I am part of has been a great help and we usually run it once on a weekday and once on the weekend.

These are just a few ideas I wanted to throw out there I haven’t seen on this topic that may help battle isolation while working around your busy schedule. What has helped you battle isolation?
