Do you have champagne taste with soda water money? That was one of my dad’s favorite expressions when talking about my financial situation.
Being smart with money is pretty important no matter how much money you make. You often hear about people who make millions but are in debt up to their ears because they make foolish purchases. You’ll also find the people who keep their wealth are usually pretty frugal when it comes to spending. Once you start making money in this industry it’s easy to feel tempted to spending more than you have and the next thing you know, financially you’re right back to being in debt. I know personally because I have been there done that and now I try to be smart with my money.
It’s so easy to become lured when working on the Internet because you’re constantly bombarded by new opportunity programs, cool Internet tools and new and improved training programs. I always tell people who are just starting out to work within their budget while they study and learn. You always want to invest back into your business but paying your bills and expenses are also a must.
I see so many who start out and go out on a shopping spree spending thousands for their new home office because they are so excited. The result is the person is so daunted by the debt she just racked up that instead of working hard to get her business going and make it back, she becomes overwhelmed and a failure to launch happens. Don’t fall into this trap.
Just an FYI though, I know the price of going to the hair salon may seem like it’s over the top. But if you would like justification for it, besides doing something really good for yourself that is, why don’t I let you in on a tip. In my opinion, some things you just can’t skimp on. I made the attempt a few days ago, to save money by highlighting my own hair. It was a disaster. Needless to say my hairdresser saw me a day later and I ended up paying $25 more for the kit and their hairdresser. How was that being smart with my money?
When you’re first starting a business from home it can be empowering and exhilarating but it can also be quite costly if you’re not careful. Weigh out your options and set out a budget on paper before you start reconstructing your home just for an office with an ocean view.
Cheers to your success!
