Focus.

This word seems to allude many, they think if they shuffle papers around and surf on the Internet they have gotten some work done. The problem is, six months later, they are still in the same place mentally and financially and blaming everyone around them for forcing them to invest money and time into a dream that was in their eyes, “Never meant to happen.” So sad.

For me, focus is sooooo important when being home with little ones running around vying for my time, wanting to paint and play, sing songs and dance. Oh, and then there are distractions like the dishes and laundry, right? Don’t let it deter you? Focus on the task at hand, go back to my organization post, this will be of some help. Get your mindset straight, meditate, don’t answer the phone unless it’s a prospect, do what you need to do, to shut what you can out and get productive work done.

Better said than done right? No, you can do it. Like, my father used to say to me all the time, “If you really want something bad enough, you will make it happen.” How many success stories have you heard about people who were single moms or worked full time jobs while pursuing their dreams and eventually became great successes in life? If you want it bad enough, you will find a way to overcome every obstacle in your path. 2008 is here, no more looking back to mistakes or failures. Learn from your mistakes don’t dwell on them.

Unearth the greatness that is within you, tackle one task at a time and check them off of your list in your planner or your organizer on Outlook.

Here are some focus tips that have helped me:

  • One task at a time (trying to tackle too many tasks will only overwhelm you)
  • Don’t answer the phone, unless it’s a prospect of course. This is not the time to talk to your mother about the latest family gossip, get to work!
  • Music - sometimes soothing music can help you to tune out the outside distractions and focus on the task at hand.
  • Just type - when trying to focus on writing your article or post you may draw a blank. Just start typing. It may start out as gibberish but will spark ideas in your head and turn out to be a masterpiece.
  • Hide! Okay, this is one for the moms. When your significant other comes home, say, I need this amount of alotted time, can you watch the kids? Then sit in your office, in the quiet and focus on getting your work done.
  • Write it down. Having a written list in front of you, helps with focus because it’s sitting in front of you and not floating around in your head with the ten million other things you have to do like pick the kids up from school, get laundry done, blah blah.

What are your great tips for staying focused?

Cheers! Kelly :)
