A man has decided to auction his life on eBay. Have you seen this yet? His whole life.

His house, belongings, a shot at his job and in introduction to his friends after going through what was obviously a bad break up with his wife about two years ago. On his website he explains that his whole life in Perth, Australia just reminds him of what he built with her and are constant reminders so he wants to sell it all and use the money to buy a ticket to anywhere and go wherever the journey takes him.

I have to tell you I am not making judgements either way, just fascinated with the whole idea. I mean, we all have times in our lives when things don’t work out the way we planned and we would love nothing better to get a fresh start right?

I think too often our possessions actually hold us back from moving forward in our lives. We often stay in the same job that makes us unhappy but are afraid to take a chance on a new job or perhaps start our own venture. We live in a home that reminds us of who we once were not necessarily who we have or can become. My father always reminded me while growing up that material possessions are just things and not to get too attached as they may weigh you down in the end.

I remember how freeing it felt when I was in my twenties and decided to move across the U.S. from the east coast to the west coast with whatever I could fit in my pick up truck and sold or gave away the rest. So why are some people taken aback by Ian’s idea and think it’s absolute nonsense? Although I was happy too see the majority of people think it’s an awesome idea.
