dscn2066.JPGI wouldn’t miss these moments  for the world. I love being a work-at-home mom because it allows me to be with my children all the time and not miss the precious moments no matter how small. It’s so important for me to be able to work from home and do fun things with my children like going down the slide, playing soccer in the park, blowing bubbles or just going for a walk and enjoying the fact I can watch them grow because I don’t have to rush to work.

I know parents who leave their children for more than 10 hours a day. That’s a huge chunk of their lives, especially in the formative years. The point is, we all have a choice and I made mine. Entrepreneurialism keeps me home with my children and I feel so grateful everyday when I walk downstairs in the morning and get to see their bright shiny faces and plan our days together.

Is working for myself easy? No, not always. I sometimes stay up late at night writing but every sacrifice is worth it. The questions you need to ask yourself are: What do I want my life to look like? Am I getting enough quality time with my children on a daily basis? What options are available for me when it comes to working from home?

You may be surprised when you have the right frame of mind what creative ideas you may come up with that will enable you to work from home. One of the most crucial points I am trying to make is, life is short, sacrifices can only seem like a brief moment in time but your children are only young once. And that time missed could last a whole life time.

Cheers!

Kelly :)

  1. Hi, I found your site since I have a Google alert on my name (also Kelly Smith). Regarding the topic of this post, I wish more parents would see it this way. I’m a WAHD (freelance writer) and this gives me a chance to get my daughter ready for school, drop her off, and then pick her up in the PM.

Even if she doesn’t realize it right now, when she grows up, this family involvement will make all the difference in her character. The latch-key approach to family life is very detrimental. Granted, sometimes there is no choice. Anyhow, great site! I appreciate your values!

  4. Kelly,

What a wonderful post! It’s so inspiring to see that you’re able to provide for your children without missing a moment of their lives. I’m not a parent myself, but I’m more than familiar with the importance of being with your children in their formative years, and entrepreneurship is just the way to do it. It really does allow you to set your own schedule, and that’s all you could ever ask for as a mom. I’ve been working at home with a new program from Microsoft called Office Live Small Business, have you heard of it? Well, it’s basically a one-stop shop, with customizable web page designers (so easy to use, no HTML experience needed!) and a highly organized e-mail beta that keeps your invoices in line and even checks the status of sent e-mails, great for those important follow-ups. I’ve been using it for the past few weeks and it’s just a fabulous tool for any home business owner!

You check it out at http://smallbusiness.officelive.com

Oh, and the coolest part is, you get your very own “.com” URL for free! You could even have http://www.kellysmith.com! It’s really incredible, adds a whole new level of professionalism and really keeps your internet business in line. Now, I work with Microsoft, so if you or any readers have any questions, feel free to e-mail me! My personal e-mail address is k-rosenberg@live.com. Looking forward to reading more of your blog entries! Keep it up, Kelly!

    Best,
    Kimberly

  5. I spent the first year as a SAHM before developing a desire and financial need for becoming at WAHM. Then, I spent two more years searching for genuine WAH Opps; and finally, at the beginning of this year, my fourth year as Mom I found profitable WAH and enough to call myself a full-time WAHM. I have only spent a total of 9 months working part time outside the home since my son was born in 1/2004; and always used family as daycare. I’m proud of that so far, and I hope that all parents will find their way someday. It is challenging, to say the least; but the reward is worth more smiles than the stress is worth the frowns!
