Another great free tool for marketing . . . if you don’t have your Google Alerts coming into your email you should. Google Alerts are a fantastic way of monitoring your competition.

Let me give you an example. Say, you have a blog that sells coffee for A&B company. Well, you can go to Google Alerts – http://www.google.com/alerts and create a Google Alert for the Search term: A&B company, of people who are using blogs or even videos for marketing it and have it come into your email once a day. What will happen, is once another marketer advertises for A&B Company through blogging and comes up in Google, it will then come into your email. Now, you can see what your competition is doing to market the same product or company as you.

You can also use it to keep up on current events you’re interested in such as a sporting event or developing news story. We have several Google Alerts coming into your email daily and it gives us ideas of different ways people are marketing and how we can compete. This is such a useful tool and it’s free. If you’re not using it, I suggest you go in there right now.

**Here’s another tip, you can also market yourself by going to these people’s blogs and making comments on the relevant material linking back to your site. This can in turn create traffic for you!
