Lately every time I turn on the news, whether it’s the American or Canadian channels, all I see are raw footage of school shootings, fights on school buses, economy collapsing, war, Uh! It could seriously put someone into a deep depression or at least paralyze them in fear of walking out their door in the morning. Geez!
Don’t they report on any of the good stuff out there? I mean, really, give us some faith in human beings. I finally had to turn it off last night and just rely on my good ‘ol laptop to give me the news where I can choose what I want to read and watch instead of sitting through the whole news hour just to see the 2-minute good samaritan last segment. Here’s something that will make you smile.
One of the things Calgary is famous for is the Stampede. It’s known as the largest show on earth and hosts a world class rodeo during it’s 10-day run. Whether this is true or not I don’t know. I do know that the whole city turns into a Stampede festival during that time. Free pancake breakfasts everywhere on a daily basis, country music, dancing and music in the streets, you name it. My kids and I had a blast at the Stampede this year which is even obvious to the camera crew for a local news station as they tried their first cotton candy on camera!
TGIF! What a day! We went to the Mom Show today. About 1,000 moms attended the 4 shows shot at the Southcentre Mall in Calgary. It is hosted by Catherine Marion and Laurie Gelman.
Catherine is a mother of four children and former co-host of Daytime on Rogers Television in Ottawa. Laurie, mother of two, was a former correspondent on the Early Show on CBC and correspondent for ABC’s Good Morning America.
I have to admit I was a little nervous about the idea of being in an audience full of children including mine and how they would keep it all under control. After all, when I brought my kids to even see Barney they were pretty restless after only 30 minutes and the Mom Show taping could last about two hours.
But it worked. They got everyone’s energy up with the cheering and constant prizes for both moms and children. We even learned a few tips like using yogurt for softer hair and a honey-brown sugar face scrub. Cool. My kids were so energized by the end of the taping that it took a few hours to wind down. It was a good Friday in the day in the life of a WAHM.
Check out the show on September 11 airing, because we will be there. I even asked a question about finding balance as a WAHM. Cheers! K.
